How do you remove blood stains from color sensitive fabric?
1. Rinse in cold water
2. Blot stain with equal parts baking soda and cold water (or use a solution of 1 tablespoon dish soap and 1 cup water)
3. Rinse in cold water
4. Repeat steps 2-3 until stain is removed
Tips:
Don’t use hot water because it sets the stain in the fabric.
The sooner you can get to the stain the easier it will be to get out.
Soaking the garment in cold water before you get to the other steps makes the stain much easier to get out if you can’t clean it right away.
For extra stubborn stains, combine baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide removes blood stains by oxidizing the hemoglobin protein (responsible for the red color) in blood. This reaction decolorizes the stain. Baking soda acts as a mild abrasive.

How to know if a fabric is color fast or color sensitive?
Natural fibers like cotton and wool (along with dark colors like red, blue, and black) tend to be color sensitive (meaning they loose their color easier). Synthetic fibers like polyester, nylon, and spandex are color fast (meaning they hold on to color better when washing). There is will some trial and error so make sure to test on an inconspicuous area.
