Blood Stains
Tips:
Don’t use hot water because it sets the stain in the fabric.
Soaking the garment in cold water before you get to the other steps makes the stain much easier to get out.
For extra stubborn stains, combine baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. hydrogen peroxide Hydrogen peroxide removes blood stains by oxidizing the hemoglobin protein (responsible for the red color) in blood. This reaction decolorizes the stain. Baking soda acts as a mild abrasive.
Steps For Color Fast Clothes
Rinse in cold water
Pour about a tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide on stain and let soak for about 3 minutes
Rinse out hydrogen peroxide in cold water
repeat until stain is removed
Steps For Color Sensitive Clothes
Rinse in cold water
Blot stain with equal parts baking soda and cold water (or use a solution of 1 tablespoon dish soap and 1 cup water)
Rinse in cold water
Repeat steps 2-3 until stain is removed
Color fast or color sensitive?
Natural fibers like cotton and wool (along with dark colors like red, blue, and black) tend to be color sensitive (meaning they loose their color easier). Synthetic fibers like polyester, nylon, and spandex are color fast (meaning they hold on to color better when washing). There is will some trial and error so make sure to test on an inconspicuous area.
